CPN (Maoist Centre) Raises Numerous Doubts Over Election Process and Results
March 18, Kathmandu – The CPN (Maoist Centre) has expressed multiple doubts regarding the process and results of the recently concluded House of Representatives election. Following an extended meeting of the Central Committee’s Standing Committee at the party’s central office on Wednesday, General Secretary CP Mainali issued a press release raising questions about the election outcome.
“Although the House of Representatives election was conducted peacefully, many doubts have arisen about both the process and the results,” the release stated. It further highlighted that the people’s frustration with the parliamentary parties stems from their flawed policies, repressive attitudes, and corrupt behavior, which naturally led to public opposition against the then coalition government. The release also comments on the public being forced to silently endure destructive acts in reaction to the crackdown on protests by NGOs on September 8.
“Subsequently, although the election was held by the reactionary Karki government of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, formed with the direct involvement of NGOs/INGOs despite being labeled as non-partisan, the unexpected election results contrary to political assessment are concerning but not unnatural,” the statement noted. “Over time, the actions and causes behind these developments will become clearer.”
Nonetheless, the Maoist Centre extended its best wishes regarding the formation of a new government with a full majority under the leadership of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
Additionally, the party expressed skepticism about the recent visit of US Deputy Commanding General Lieutenant General Joel Bhovel to Nepal and had previously voiced concerns over the visit of US Indo-Pacific Command General Samuel J. Paparo on February 13.
