Attack on Police Team Attempting to Arrest Individuals Involved in Beating in Nawalparasi

April 30, Kathmandu – A police team was attacked while attempting to arrest individuals involved in a beating incident related to an old dispute in West Nawalparasi. DSP Veerdatt Pant, spokesperson for the District Police Office of West Nawalparasi, reported that one vehicle each of the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force was vandalized during the incident.

After 1 PM today, in Harakpura, Ward No. 4 of Pratappur Rural Municipality, West Nawalparasi, 20-year-old Umesh Kevat was assaulted over a longstanding grievance. The police were informed that 17-year-olds Abdul Ansari and Ajat Ansari were involved in the assault. The police team proceeded to arrest those individuals based on this information.

During the operation, police also arrested 43-year-old Salamuddin Miya, suspected to be involved in the incident along with the other two. Following the arrests, a crowd of approximately 200 people gathered and threw stones at the police vehicles. According to DSP Pant, the police managed to bring the situation under control shortly afterward and have detained those arrested in custody.
