
Hotel A One Cafe in Koteshwor Fined NPR 205,000 for Using Expired Food Items
The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has fined Hotel A One Cafe and Venue located in Koteshwor, Kathmandu, NPR 205,000 for using expired food products. During a monitoring inspection, expired items such as Singsung Dark Soy Sauce, Kikkoman Soy Sauce, and Kiloy-brand products were found being used in the food preparation for customers.
The department conducted inspections of 44 industrial and commercial firms in Kathmandu Metropolitan City wards 32 and 35. While 43 firms received general directives, only Hotel A One was found violating regulations and fined. This action took place on 29 Baisakh in Kathmandu.
During the inspection, it was confirmed that expired food items were in use in the kitchen of Hotel A One. Specifically, the expired items included Singsung Dark Soy Sauce, Kikkoman Soy Sauce, and products branded Kiloy. These were being used to prepare food served to consumers. Due to the significant health risks posed to consumers, the department imposed the penalty of NPR 205,000 on the hotel in accordance with Section 16 (sub-section (ka)) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075.
