Trump Returns to Washington After China Visit, Calls Talks ‘Extremely Successful’

U.S. President Donald Trump described his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping as “extremely successful and globally memorable.” After completing a two-day visit to Beijing, Trump returned to Washington. According to Chinese state media, Xi Jinping characterized Trump’s visit as “historic and a milestone.” However, no major trade agreements or new deals were announced between the two countries.

Trump flew back to Washington aboard Air Force One from Beijing. It is expected that he may speak with reporters en route, which could reveal further details about the meetings. During their discussions, the two leaders addressed issues including trade, oil supply, Iran, and Taiwan. Earlier, in an interview with Fox News, Trump claimed that Xi Jinping pledged not to supply military equipment to Iran.

According to Trump, China intends to reopen the Strait of Hormuz shipping lane. He also asserted that Beijing agreed to purchase oil from the United States. Nonetheless, both sides have thus far shared only limited information regarding concrete outcomes or any formal agreements resulting from the talks.
