Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Says There Is No Reason to Trust the US During Visit to India
May 15, Kathmandu — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that there is no basis for trusting the Americans. Speaking at a press conference held in New Delhi, he emphasized Iran’s firm opposition to any pressure or aggression. “We have no reason to trust the Americans,” Araghchi said, “the Iranian people only understand the language of respect.” He also denied Iran’s responsibility for the restrictions and blockades observed in the Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, Araghchi asserted that Iran has never initiated war and has only taken steps in self-defense. “My country had to face aggressive activities from the United States and Israel. This happened while we were engaged in negotiations with the Americans. Even during the diplomatic stage, they decided to launch an attack,” he explained. He expressed gratitude toward all nations that condemned the attack and pointed out, “We are thankful to the Government of India and the Indian people for showing solidarity and sympathy toward the Iranian people.” He extended appreciation for the humanitarian assistance and support received from the Indian government. Araghchi is in New Delhi to attend the meeting of BRICS foreign ministers, which is being chaired by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
