Cockroach Janata Party: New Political Force Rises on Instagram with Over 10 Million Followers in Five Days

Following Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant’s remark comparing certain youths to ‘cockroaches,’ the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ was founded and has since amassed over 11.7 million followers on its Instagram account. The party’s manifesto states that the Chief Justice will not be rewarded with a Rajya Sabha seat after retirement and declares that anyone tampering with votes will be arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Chief Justice Surya Kant’s ‘cockroach’ analogy sparked widespread debate on social media. In response, the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ was established and rapidly gained popularity, boasting 11.7 million Instagram followers, a number that continues to rise. For comparison, India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 8.7 million followers on Instagram, while the main opposition Congress Party holds 13.2 million followers.

The party was founded by Maharashtra-based Abhijeet Deepke. Its slogan reads: “Secular, Socialist, Democratic, Lazy.” On a single day, the party’s followers increased by more than 4 million. On May 15, while hearing a case, Chief Justice Surya Kant compared some unemployed youths to cockroaches. The party manifesto states, “If any legitimate vote is erased, the Chief Election Commissioner will be arrested under the UAPA, as that is no less than terrorism.”

Abhijeet Deepke explains, “While listening to the Chief Justice’s statement on X, where he compared youth critics of the system to cockroaches and parasites, I shared my views on social media. I received surprising responses from many Generation Z and under-25 youths. They said, ‘We need to unite and create a platform.’ Subsequently, I founded the CJP (Cockroach Janata Party).”
