The government has explicitly stated that no supplements containing magnesium glycinate are permitted for sale or distribution in Nepal. The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has confirmed that, to date, no products containing magnesium glycinate have been registered or authorized for sale. The department warned that legal action will be taken against the sale and distribution of unregistered products and urged consumers to remain vigilant. Kathmandu, 7 Jestha.

The government clarified that no permission has been granted to sell or distribute any supplements containing ‘magnesium glycinate’. The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control issued a notice expressing serious concern over misleading advertisements related to magnesium glycinate circulating on various social media platforms. According to the department, under the Food Hygiene and Quality Control Act, 2081, and the Supplementary Food Regulation Procedures, 2072, registration with the department is mandatory before any food, health, nutritional, dietary supplement, nutraceutical, or probiotic product can be sold or distributed.

However, the department has stated that no product containing the magnesium glycinate molecule has been registered or authorized as a dietary supplement for sale and distribution thus far. The notice emphasizes, “If any unregistered product containing the magnesium glycinate molecule is sold or distributed under the name of dietary supplements, strict action will be taken according to the Food Hygiene and Quality Control Act, 2081.” The department also advised consumers to exercise caution when using such unauthorized and unverified supplement products.
