Suspect in Seven-Year-Old Murder Case Arrested

May 21, Chitwan – Chitwan police have arrested a suspect who was on the run in connection with a murder case from seven years ago. The arrested individual is Panchadev Mahara from Feta Rural Municipality–4, Bara District. A joint team from Ratnanagar Tandi Police Station and Khairahani Police Station apprehended Mahara on May 19 in Triveni Tol, Feta Rural Municipality–1, Rapti, Bara, and brought him to Chitwan.

According to Tandi Police Station, Mahara is accused of involvement in a murder case that occurred in Chitwan in 2019. On the evening of March 6, 2020 (Chaitra 23, 2076 BS), 46-year-old Sakhichan Mahara of Feta Rural Municipality–3, Bara, was found dead in Khairahani Municipality–9, Chitwan. The body was discovered inside a makeshift house where laborers working at Nepal Gas Industry in Gandaki resided. Police reported that Sakhichan had a deep wound behind his left ear and a fractured left forearm. Preliminary investigations confirmed it was a homicide.

During the investigation, police identified the then 30-year-old Panchadev Mahara, also known as Pundev, as involved in the murder. The Chitwan District Court granted permission to arrest him on March 8, 2020 (Chaitra 25, 2076 BS), but he had since been evading arrest. After his recent apprehension, Mahara has been presented before the Chitwan District Court, where he has been granted a five-day custody extension to continue further investigation.
