Nepal Faces Kyrgyzstan Today in Volleyball Championship

May 23, Kathmandu – In the ongoing CAVA Women’s Volleyball Championship hosted on home soil, Nepal will compete against Kyrgyzstan today in their second Group A match. After a competitive five-set loss to familiar rivals India in their opening game, Nepal aims to secure their first victory. A win against Kyrgyzstan is crucial for Nepal to strengthen their chances of advancing to the semifinals.

Kyrgyzstan has already earned 3 points by defeating the Maldives in straight sets in their first game. Group A standings currently place Kyrgyzstan at the top with 3 points, followed by India with 2 points, Nepal with 1 point, and the Maldives yet to secure any points.

The match between Nepal and Kyrgyzstan will be held at the Dasarath Rangasala Covered Hall in Tripureshwor, starting at 5 PM. Earlier, at 2:30 PM, India and the Maldives will face off in another Group A match. Under the leadership of new captain Niruta Thagunna, Nepal put up a strong performance against India but ultimately lost in the final set. Notably, five young players made their national team debut in that match.

According to Nepal’s head coach Jagdish Bhatt, the team’s goal is to win the remaining two matches to qualify for the semifinals. Also scheduled for today at 12 PM in Group B is the match between Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka, with new players expected to make their championship debut.

The CAVA Women’s Volleyball Championship, organized by the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) in coordination with the Nepal Volleyball Association, began in Kathmandu on Friday and features participation from eight Central Asian nations. The winning team of this championship will qualify for the Asia Cup, the Nepal Volleyball Association announced. All matches are being broadcast live through Himalaya Sports.
