Google Unveils New Technology to Collect and Manage Health Data
Google has announced new initiatives in the health technology sector aimed at ensuring people live longer, healthier lives. This month, the company launched the ‘Google Health App,’ ‘Google Health Coach,’ and ‘Fitbit Air’ products. The primary goal is to give users full control over their health data and provide them with tools to manage it efficiently.
Key features of this technology include consolidating data collected from various devices into a single, secure location. Currently, individuals face the hassle of monitoring their health through multiple apps, smartwatches, digital scales, and separate medical reports. The Google Health App will integrate all these details into one secure platform. Users will be able to connect food logs from the ‘MyFitnessPal’ app, exercise data from smartwatches, weight measurements from smart scales, and sleep data collected via Fitbit Air into this application.
The ‘Google Health Coach’ will offer personalized and actionable recommendations to help users achieve their health goals. This app is designed to connect seamlessly with platforms like ‘Health Connect’ and ‘Apple Health,’ facilitating smooth operation across various devices and applications. U.S. users will also be able to securely store their medical records and lab reports within the app. Google plans to expand this functionality to other countries soon.
Google has developed this system as an open ecosystem, giving users the freedom to share their health data with other apps or family members as they choose. In the future, users will have the option to send medical records directly to their healthcare providers through ‘Apple Health’ and ‘Smart Health Links.’ Recognizing the highly sensitive nature of health data, Google places special emphasis on security and privacy safeguards. Users will have control over when to store, share, or delete their data. Importantly, Google guarantees that personal health data within the Google Health App will never be used for advertising purposes.
