Metropolitan City Signs Agreements with Sports Federations to Organize Cricket, Badminton, and Swimming Competitions

13 Jestha, Kathmandu – Kathmandu Metropolitan City has entered into agreements with various sports federations to organize competitions in cricket, badminton, and swimming.

The metropolitan city signed an agreement with Bagmati Province Cricket Association to organize the ‘P.L. Singh T20 Cricket Cup,’ with Kathmandu District Badminton Association to hold the Kathmandu Metropolitan Cup ward-level badminton competition, and with Nepal Swimming Association to conduct the Kathmandu Metropolitan Mayor’s Cup swimming competition.

The agreements were signed on Wednesday at Kathmandu Plaza in the presence of Acting Chief Sunita Dangol, Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, and Social Committee Coordinator Ramkumar K.C., along with Social Development Department Head Samiksha Nirola, Cricket Association Secretary Prashanna Shakya, Badminton Association President Dipak Thapa, and Swimming Association President Jagatman Shrestha.

All these competitions will be organized under the joint banner of the metropolitan city and the respective associations.

Under the agreements, the metropolitan city will provide NPR 7.5 million for the cricket tournament, NPR 3 million for the badminton competition, and NPR 1 million for the swimming event. The federations are responsible for contributing 20 percent of the total costs. The cricket event is scheduled to be held by Ashad 5, the badminton competition by Ashad 2, and the swimming event on Jestha 23 and 24.

The cricket tournament will feature players from six metropolitan cities including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Pokhara, Bharatpur, Biratnagar, and Birgunj.

The national-level open swimming competition will showcase contests among national, international, and Olympian athletes, taking place at the international swimming pool on Jestha 23 and 24.

The badminton competition will be organized at the metropolitan level, with players participating from all ward offices.

In brief remarks after the agreement, Acting Chief Dangol emphasized that the partnership aims to promote sports locally and develop athletes to compete at national and international levels.

Social Committee Coordinator K.C. highlighted ongoing collaborative efforts with players and experts in the field to enhance cooperation, coordination, and investment in sports development.

Swimming Association President Shrestha expressed appreciation for the metropolitan city’s efforts, stating that the initiative has provided significant support for sports development. Similarly, Badminton Association President Thapa assured that a competition worthy of the metropolitan city’s pride would be organized. Cricket Association Secretary Shakya noted that last year’s support from the metropolitan city enabled the training of cricket coaches, and this year’s support is expected to yield results at national and international levels.

Following the agreements, discussions were held on infrastructure development, incentivizing coaches and athletes, and promoting sports programs at the community level for overall sports advancement.

The metropolitan city’s decision to organize these competitions was formalized in the executive meeting held on Jestha 3.
