Over 4,600 Indian Nationals Deported from the US During Trump’s 17-Month Tenure

May 6, Kathmandu – During the 17 months of former US President Donald Trump’s administration, more than 4,600 Indian nationals were deported from the United States, according to recently released data. Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randeep Jaishwal provided these figures in response to journalists’ queries. He also revealed that, in the current year 2026, a total of 1,076 Indian citizens had been deported from the US back to India.

Furthermore, in the year 2025, the US deported a total of 3,567 Indian nationals. The Trump administration had prioritized immigration as a key and sensitive political issue during its tenure. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has stated that repatriation of its nationals residing illegally abroad is the responsibility of all countries. However, this procedure is only implemented after confirmation of the individual’s nationality, according to the spokesperson.

India has defended its stance by emphasizing that “this is not merely a policy of India, but a principle widely accepted in international relations.” The US has been deporting individuals who have entered illegally, overstayed their visas, or reside without proper documentation. India reportedly scrutinizes and verifies the lists of individuals deported from the US through its agencies before accepting them.
