Israel and Hezbollah Agree on Ceasefire
June 19, Kathmandu – Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah have reached an agreement on a ceasefire. Citing a senior U.S. official, BBC reported the ceasefire news. The agreement is set to take effect at 4 p.m. local time on Friday evening. Israeli military spokesperson Brigadier General Effi Dafrin provided a statement regarding the ceasefire status. “We are currently in a ceasefire. However, Israel is prepared to continue hostilities if necessary,” he said.
Earlier on Thursday night, the Israeli military conducted bombings targeting Hezbollah across various locations in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of 18 people in southern Lebanon. Israel also claimed that four of its soldiers were wounded during these operations. The impact of the conflict has affected the peace agreement between the United States and Iran. The two countries had already agreed to halt hostilities and pursue a peace deal. A formal date for talks and signing was scheduled to take place in Switzerland today. However, Israel’s attack in Lebanon on Thursday night has complicated the situation. In the U.S.-Iran agreement, Iran has taken a firm stance to include the conflict in Lebanon, strengthening its position against the ongoing discord.
