Olympic Day 2026 Celebrated with Diverse Programs

9 Ashar, Kathmandu – The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) successfully concluded Olympic Day 2026, celebrated in line with the global slogan ‘Let’s Move – You Can Do This!’ The main ceremony marking the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Foundation Day and Olympic Day was held at the NOC building in Satdobato, Lalitpur.

Chief guest and NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha praised the contributions of Olympic Day 2026 coordinator and Vice President Ashok Ratna Bajracharya for ensuring the event’s success. Following the welcome remarks from the organizing committee, Secretary General Rajiv Shrestha shared his perspectives. President Shrestha hoisted the national flag, while Vice President and event coordinator Bajracharya hoisted the Olympic flag. The ceremony also included the reading of the Olympic Day message from IOC President Kirsty Coventry.

In his address, President Shrestha highlighted the significance of Olympic Day and emphasized the role of sports in promoting unity, friendship, and a healthy lifestyle. The formal commencement of the Olympic Day rally was marked by symbolically handing over the Olympic torch to an Olympian. Event coordinator Ashok Ratna Bajracharya expressed gratitude to all participants, including national sports associations, educational institutions, security agencies, volunteers, and others, for their active support in making the program a success.

From Ashar 4 to 9 (June 18–23), various programs were conducted nationwide with participation from national sports associations, schools, colleges, preschools, community organizations, the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police. Through sports demonstrations, rallies, fitness programs, educational sessions, awareness campaigns, and community-involved activities, the Olympic campaign engaged the entire country.

The successful organization of Olympic Day 2026 has reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to promoting the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, inspiring people of all ages to adopt active and healthy lifestyles through sports, the NOC stated.
