Continuously Bringing Literature to Life Through YouTube

He is not particularly concerned with the number of views. His focus is solely on consistently creating videos. Pawan Thapa is deeply passionate about literature and is an avid reader himself. His commendable effort involves using visual media to inspire others to read as well. The name of his YouTube channel is ‘Nepali Kavita’ (Nepali Poetry). Even though it does not have many subscribers, the videos uploaded there are incredibly valuable to literature enthusiasts. This channel features videos in Nepali, Indian, Maithili, and Bhojpuri languages. Pawan manages this work alone and does not care about views. He diligently continues to promote literary content.

In the month of Jestha, 2080 BS (mid-2023), Pawan had a camera in hand and believed something could be done. Though he did not have a clear plan at the time, a meeting with Sanjiv Upreti, a former associate professor at Tribhuvan University, encouraged him. He asked Sanjiv to recite the poem titled ‘Pagal’ by Laxmi Prasad Devkota. Afterward, he began creating more videos in a similar style. Pawan has produced numerous videos with various creators, including authors from Nepali and Hindi literature.

To promote a culture of reading, Pawan also started a series called ‘What to Read? Why to Read?’ This series includes videos with different writers and aims to make reading more accessible to new readers. Over 30 episodes have been produced so far. His channel also runs series related to theater, music, and cinema. According to Pawan, literature shares a deep connection with theater, music, and film. He has been operating the YouTube channel for the past three years, and it holds great significance beyond being just an ordinary channel. He regards it as a form of social service. He states, “The work is demanding, but there is no income. Yet, engaging in it brings solace.”
