Hiking Event Organized to Promote Historical and Religious Heritage of Chandragiri-Thankot Area
A hiking and interaction program aimed at promoting the historical and religious heritage of the Chandragiri area was jointly organized by the Nepal Tourism Entrepreneurs Association and Chandragiri Municipality Ward No. 4. Ward Chairperson Krishna Prasad Khadgi stated that the goal is to link ancient trade routes and natural trails with tourism to achieve local economic prosperity. Officials from the Nepal Tourism Board and tourism experts emphasized the need to focus on digital marketing and heritage conservation for the development of tourism in Chandragiri. The “Observation and Promotion Program of Ancient Trade Routes and Major Heritage Sites” was held on Saturday under the joint organization of the Nepal Tourism Entrepreneurs Association and Chandragiri Municipality Ward No. 4. The event highlighted the potential for protecting, promoting, and developing tourism in the Chandragiri–Thankot area’s historical trade routes, religious sites, natural trails, and local culture.
The program included participation from the Nepal Tourism Board, Hanuman Dhoka Palace Museum, various tourism-related associations, tourism entrepreneurs, researchers, and media personnel. The heritage observation event began at the historic Chunda Devi temple complex in Thankot and proceeded along ancient trade routes to visit the Deurali Baleshwar Mahadev temple, culminating at the Adinarayan temple complex.
At the opening ceremony, Krishna Prasad Khadgi, Chairperson of Chandragiri Municipality Ward No. 4, reiterated his commitment to linking local heritage with tourism. He outlined the program’s objective to contribute to local economic prosperity by connecting ancient trade routes, religious heritage, and natural trails with tourism. Khadgi also presented detailed information on the historical, religious, and cultural assets within Ward No. 4.
Sunil Sharma, Acting Director of the Nepal Tourism Board, stressed the importance of authentic and emotional digital storytelling to present Nepal’s ancient civilization, culture, and heritage to the global audience through modern platforms. He added that content created with the genuine stories of the destinations, local community experiences, and cultural originality plays a vital role in establishing Nepal’s competitive identity in the international market.
Ishwor Lama, Chairperson of the Chundedevi Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumer Committee, pointed out that the hiking trails in the Chandragiri area have not yet received adequate promotion. He urged relevant tourism associations and stakeholders to play an active role in effectively promoting these trails.
