Afghanistan Claims Attack on Pakistan Border Area, Tensions Rise Again

These incidents followed an airstrike conducted by Pakistan inside Afghanistan on Sunday. According to the United Nations, 28 civilians were killed in Sunday’s strike. However, Afghanistan claims that residential homes were targeted in Pakistan’s attack, resulting in 36 civilian fatalities and over 160 injured. The Afghanistan-Pakistan border, which had been relatively calm for several months, is now witnessing renewed tensions. Both countries had agreed to a ceasefire following several weeks of bloody clashes last October.
Pakistan has long accused Afghanistan of harboring terrorist groups that attack Pakistan from Afghan territory. The Taliban government, however, has consistently denied these allegations.
