Iran Declares Retaliation for the Assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

June 18, Kathmandu – Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has announced it will take revenge for the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. A statement issued by the council’s secretary, Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, emphasized that Iran will certainly retaliate against those responsible for Khamenei’s killing. Iranian media outlets have published the message signed by Mohammad Baqer.

According to BBC reports, the message insists that revenge against the assassins will be carried out without fail. Mohammad Baqer’s statement was released via the social media platform X. Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed on February 28, 2026, in an American attack. This was the first attack by the US and Israel on Iran.

The assault also claimed the lives of several other high-ranking Iranian officials and some members of Khamenei’s family. BBC further reported that Khamenei’s funeral rites will be held from July 4 to 8 across Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad. “Memorial gatherings will also take place in the Iraqi cities of Baghdad, Qazvin, Karbala, and Najaf,” the report stated.
