Positive Talks Held Between US and Iranian Negotiators in Doha

June 17, Kathmandu – Mediators from Qatar and Pakistan conducted separate meetings with US and Iranian negotiators in Doha on Wednesday. According to Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the consultations achieved positive progress. Spokesperson Al-Ansari shared via his social media account X that based on the outcomes of the ‘Lake Lucerne Summit,’ the mediators from Qatar and Pakistan successfully held separate discussions with US and Iranian representatives in Doha.

He stated that the talks focused on issues related to the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” (MoU) and that positive advancements were made during the discussions. Both parties agreed to continue the dialogue in the coming period. Al-Ansari also noted that following the conclusion of the funeral process for Iran’s former Supreme Leader, arrangements will be made to schedule the next meeting as soon as possible. Previously, US President Donald Trump had indicated that the Iranian side had requested talks with the American team. The US delegation in these consultations is represented by the President’s special envoy Steven Wittkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. However, the Qatari spokesperson had earlier clarified that there were no plans for direct talks between the US and Iran in Doha.
