Pakistan Decides to Open Gwadar and Karachi Ports for Iran, Establish Six New Trade Corridors

Pakistan has announced the opening of Gwadar and Karachi ports for Iran along with the establishment of six new trade corridors. According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce, these corridors have been initiated under the Transit of Goods Through Pakistan Order 2026. This move is expected to play a significant role in positioning Pakistan as a regional trade corridor and logistics hub.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that this order aims to strengthen transit trade between Pakistan and Iran and promote regional commerce. Commerce Minister Jam Kamal said, “This step will enhance Pakistan’s strategic importance and assist the country in establishing itself as a regional trade corridor and logistics hub.”

Analysts view this decision as an important initiative in building trust with Iran. Economic analyst Dr. Abid Sulehri noted that Pakistan must have proceeded with this move based on confidence from the US. The decision is anticipated to boost bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran and further strengthen Pakistan’s role in regional trade.
