Nepal Placed in Group A for FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers

Nepal has been placed in Group A of the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers. The games for Group A will be held in Dubai, UAE, from September 23 to October 4, 2026 (Bhadra 8 to 19, 2083 in the Nepali calendar). FIBA has announced that the top three teams from each pre-qualifier group will advance to the next round.

Kathmandu, May 9 – FIBA released the draw for the first phase of the FIBA Asia Cup pre-qualifiers on Friday. The qualifiers for the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 will be conducted between August 2026 and February 2029. The pre-qualifiers will take place from August 24 to September 1, 2026 (Bhadra 8 to 19, 2083), across various countries in Asia.

A total of 18 nations, 17 from the Asian region and one from Oceania, will compete in the pre-qualifiers. Nepal’s Group A includes Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, and Oman. The matches for Group A will be hosted in Dubai, UAE. Group B consists of Kazakhstan, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Kyrgyzstan. Group C features Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, while Group D includes Thailand, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Fiji.

According to FIBA, the top three teams from each pre-qualifier group will advance to the second round. The teams qualifying for the second round will be divided into two groups with six teams each. The top four teams from both groups will then qualify for the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 qualifiers. These qualifiers will include the top eight teams from the pre-qualifiers and the top sixteen teams from the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, making a total of 24 teams competing. From this main qualification event, the top 16 teams will earn spots to participate in the FIBA Asia Cup 2029.
