India Confirms Invitation Extended to Nepal’s Foreign Secretary for Visit; Dates to Be Mutually Decided
April 12, Kathmandu – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Nepal has extended an invitation to Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishra for a visit. During a weekly media briefing on Tuesday, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randeep Jaswal confirmed that this invitation was conveyed during meetings between Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal and Indian officials in Mauritius. “Our foreign minister also engaged in discussions with Nepal’s foreign minister,” Jaswal stated. “They met in Mauritius, and the invitation to the Foreign Secretary came from Nepal.” However, the exact dates of the visit have not yet been finalized.
According to Jaswal, the timing of the visit will be arranged based on mutual understanding between the two countries. “The date on which he (the Foreign Secretary) will visit Nepal will be decided through mutual agreement,” he added. During the media briefing, when asked about the reasons behind the postponement of the Indian Foreign Secretary’s visit to Nepal, Jaswal responded, “Our relationship is multidimensional. Nepal has recently held elections and formed a new government. Our Prime Minister has engaged in talks with the Nepalese Prime Minister. We are committed to strengthening the long-standing familial ties between our two nations.”
The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu also clarified that an earlier inaccurate report during the media briefing, which mistakenly referred to the Foreign Minister instead of the Foreign Secretary regarding the visit, was an error in communication.
