Russian President Vladimir Putin Prepares for Upcoming Visit to China

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit China soon, with preparations now complete, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has confirmed. Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have met more than 40 times, with their most recent meeting taking place in September last year. Russia and China have collectively used their veto power at the United Nations Security Council to block proposals put forward by the United States.

April 13, Kathmandu – On Thursday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Reuters that all arrangements for the President’s trip to China are finalized and the visit will occur shortly. Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, military and economic ties between Beijing and Moscow have strengthened significantly, a development viewed with sensitivity by Western countries.

President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have maintained a close partnership, meeting over 40 times across several years. Their last encounter was in Beijing during a large military parade in September last year. Three weeks before Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the two leaders signed a “no limits” strategic partnership agreement. Recently, China and Russia have jointly condemned U.S. military actions in Iran and Venezuela.
