
Consumers Fall Ill After Drinking Mountain Dew; Sales Suspended Pending Laboratory Report

April 14, Kathmandu – Following reports of consumers falling ill with vomiting after drinking Mountain Dew in Tarkeshwar Municipality, Kathmandu, the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has launched strict monitoring and action against the producing company.
After a video of the incident circulated on social media, the department’s Rapid Response Team immediately began an inspection and investigation at the Mountain Dew producer, Varun Beverage (Nepal) Pvt. Ltd.
During the inspection, it was confirmed that the consumed product was Mountain Dew from batch number 168, with a production date of 03/04/26 (Nepali calendar), in a 250 ml package.
An examination of the company’s warehouse revealed only one crate (24 bottles) remaining of this batch; the rest had already been distributed to stores.
Due to issues with this batch, the department collected samples from the warehouse and sent them to a laboratory for further analysis.
Under the Food Hygiene and Quality Control Act 2081, the department has ordered Varun Beverage to submit detailed information on raw materials used in the batch as well as all food hygiene records within five days.
Also, the department has instructed the company not to sell or distribute any products from batch number 168 and to inform all dealers accordingly until the laboratory’s final analysis report is received.
