Former Minister Close to Maduro, Alex Saab, Arrested and Extradited to the US
May 16, Kathmandu – Alex Saab, a former close minister to Venezuela’s deposed President Nicolás Maduro, has been handed over to US authorities. Saab, who served as the former Minister of Industry, was transferred from Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, to the United States. Reports indicate that he is also a wealthy businessman born in Colombia. During Maduro’s regime, Saab was considered one of the president’s closest ministers.
Saab was reportedly arrested in Caracas in February during a joint operation conducted by Venezuelan and US officials. In January, the US purportedly launched a military attack on Caracas, detaining then-President Maduro and bringing him to America. The reasons for Saab’s extradition to the US, as well as the charges against him, have not yet been disclosed.
