Foreign Direct Investment Commitments Reach NPR 4.53 Billion in First 10 Months of Fiscal Year

3 Jestha, Kathmandu. Foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments have surpassed NPR 4.5 billion in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year 2082/83. According to the Department of Industry, FDI approvals amounted to NPR 4,532.16 crore as of the end of Baisakh.

During this period, NPR 576 crore was approved via the automatic route, while NPR 3,955 crore was approved through the approval route. In Baisakh 2083 alone, FDI worth NPR 352 crore was approved.

The total investment commitment came from 728 companies, with 195 registered through the approval route and 533 through the automatic route. The Department of Industry also reported that 113 companies were registered in the month of Baisakh alone.

This fiscal year, only nine large companies have been registered, along with eight medium-sized and 711 small enterprises. In Baisakh, one large and 112 small companies were registered. These newly registered companies aim to generate a total of 23,530 jobs.

According to the Department of Industry, the information technology sector has seen the highest number of company registrations, accounting for 58% of all registered industries, totaling 421 companies. The tourism sector registered 189 companies, manufacturing 42, and services 55.

Agriculture registered 16 companies, while mining and infrastructure sectors each saw one company registration. July (Sawan) witnessed the highest level of investment commitment this year. After the indigenous people’s movement in Bhadra, investment commitments dropped sharply but have somewhat increased following the general elections and formation of the new government.
