
Landless Dalit and Sukumbasi Communities Protest Demolition in Lahan
In Lahan, Siraha, landless Dalit and Sukumbasi communities are protesting against the government’s bulldozer operation aimed at removing public encroachments. The demonstration, organized by the Land Rights Forum and the Musahar Youth Network, featured participants chanting slogans against the government. They demanded guarantees for housing, land ownership certificates, and secure living arrangements, insisting that poor and landless communities should not be evicted without alternative provisions.
On May 18, in Siraha’s Lahan area, the landless Dalit and Sukumbasi groups expressed their dissent over the government’s recent actions to clear public land using bulldozers. During the protest arranged by the Land Rights Forum and Musahar Youth Network, participants loudly voiced their grievances against what they described as injustice. The communities, who have resided there for years, urged the government not to evict them without providing alternative solutions. Demonstrators from Dalit, Musahar, and other landless families called for assured housing, official land documents, and secure residential status.
