
Germany, Portugal, England, and Belgium Secure Impressive Wins in Pre-World Cup Friendlies
In the friendly matches ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Germany defeated the United States 2-1, while Portugal secured a 2-1 victory over Chile. England edged New Zealand 1-0, and Belgium overwhelmed Tunisia with a commanding 5-0 win. Scotland routed Bolivia 4-0, and Switzerland drew 1-1 with Australia. Kathmandu, June 7.
Title-contending teams demonstrated strong form in these World Cup warm-up matches. Germany triumphed over co-host United States with a 2-1 scoreline. Kai Havertz opened the scoring just two minutes into the match to give Germany an early lead. The U.S.’s Anthony Robinson equalized in the 37th minute. However, Leroy Sané, assisted by Havertz, restored Germany’s advantage in the 57th minute.
Portugal, playing on home soil, defeated Chile 2-1. Gonçalo Guedes scored in the 58th minute to put Portugal ahead. Bruno Fernandes doubled the lead in the 75th minute before Chile’s Lucas Chacón pulled one back during second-half injury time. England won narrowly 1-0 against New Zealand, with captain Harry Kane scoring in first-half stoppage time.
Belgium delivered a dominant performance against Tunisia, winning 5-0. Goals for Belgium came from Leandro Trossard (28th minute), Charles De Ketelaere (53rd), Kevin De Bruyne (65th), Dodi Lukebakio (85th), and Nicolas Raskin (87th). Scotland achieved a 4-0 victory over Bolivia, with Che Adams netting two goals, and Lawrence Shankland along with Scott McTominay scoring one each. Switzerland and Australia played out a 1-1 draw. Dan Ndoye put Switzerland ahead in the 14th minute, but Australia’s Tate Yengi equalized in the 56th minute.
