Agriculture Minister Gita Chaudhary Promises Long-Term Solutions for Elephant-Affected Residents of Bahundangi

Agriculture, Forest, and Environment Minister Gita Chaudhary conducted an on-site inspection of the elephant-affected area in Bahundangi, Jhapa. She expressed the government’s commitment to prioritizing a long-term resolution to human-elephant conflict and providing compensation to the affected farmers.

Minister Chaudhary visited Bahundangi, located in Mechinagar Municipality wards 1 and 4, to assess the actual situation on the ground. During the inspection, locals reported to the minister that wild elephants frequently enter Bethan village, causing significant daily damage to crops such as maize, betel nut, and other cereals as well as cash crops.

After hearing the grievances and suffering of the residents, Minister Chaudhary assured prompt coordination with all relevant agencies to control the elephants and ensure the safety of citizens and their property. She highlighted the need for effective collaboration among federal, provincial, and local governments to provide a sustainable solution to the human-elephant conflict.
