The Road Division Office has urged the immediate evacuation of about 80 percent of land encroached upon along the East-West Mahendra Highway from Gaddachowki in Kanchanpur to Chisapani in Kailali.
Any structures built by encroaching on the road boundary will be removed under Section 19 (3) of the Public Roads Act, 1974 (2031 BS), and the costs will be collected from the concerned individuals or institutions.
The Mahendranagar Road Division Office issued a 15-day notice, stating that the road boundary on both sides extends 25 meters from the road center, and has requested the public to vacate the encroached land, according to Rajesh Kumar Yadav, Chief of the Mahendranagar Road Division Office.
Along the 126-kilometer stretch from Gaddachowki to Chisapani, many temporary huts, waiting shelters, toilets, and other structures have been constructed over a long period in various locations.
