Brazil Extends Undefeated World Cup Streak to 21 Matches After 1-1 Draw with Morocco

Brazil, aiming for their sixth World Cup title, came from behind to equalize against Morocco in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The encounter between five-time champions Brazil and Morocco ended in a 1-1 draw. Morocco’s Ismail Saibari put his team ahead in the 21st minute, but Brazil’s Vinicius Junior leveled the score in the 32nd minute. With this draw, Brazil extended its undefeated streak in opening World Cup matches to 21 games.

On June 14, in Kathmandu, Brazil, the five-time World Cup winners, shared points with Morocco after a 1-1 draw in the inaugural match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, held on Sunday morning as part of Group C. Brazil has now remained unbeaten in its opening match for 21 consecutive World Cups, avoiding any devastating early losses. The last time Brazil lost their first match in the tournament was in 1934, when they were defeated by Spain. Since then, Brazil has won 17 opening matches and drawn 4 in World Cup history.

The match, played at New Jersey Stadium in New York, saw both teams score in the first half. Morocco’s Ismail Saibari gave his side the lead in the 21st minute, but Brazil responded in the 32nd minute through Vinicius Junior. Vinicius skillfully finished after receiving a pass from Bruno Guimaraes, outmaneuvering the Moroccan defenders. The third match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, featuring Scotland and Haiti, is scheduled to begin at 6:45 AM local time on Sunday.
