Three Students Killed, Seven Injured in School Shooting in Tacloban, Philippines
In a tragic incident at a school in Tacloban, Philippines, two teenage boys opened fire on Monday, resulting in the deaths of three students and injuries to seven others. Police have apprehended the two suspects, aged 15 and 14, and recovered the weapon as investigations have commenced. The Department of Education has issued a high alert and announced that psychosocial counseling services will be provided to the affected students and teachers.
The shooting occurred around 9 a.m. local time at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte province. Videos released by local media show students screaming and crying, while others are seen taking cover inside classrooms amid the sound of gunshots. Security forces arrived at the school shortly after the incident was reported. The wounded were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Preliminary investigations confirmed seven injured victims and three fatalities, although the names of the deceased and wounded have not been disclosed. Sherlita Pamala, the principal of the Tacloban school, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and assured that urgent assistance will be provided to them.
Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting. Initial reports suggest the incident may have stemmed from internal school bullying or personal grievances. The two teenagers, known by the nicknames ‘Road’ and ‘Nyas,’ remain in custody.
