Elephant-Affected Residents Submit Memorandum to Chief Minister
12 Ashar, Biratnagar – Citizens affected by elephants from Bahundangi area in Jhapa have submitted a memorandum to Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki. The memorandum, presented on behalf of residents from Mechinagar Municipality wards 1 to 4, appeals to the Chief Minister to ensure their right to live without fear and to prevent further problems caused by wild elephant attacks.
The representative team, led by local resident Santosh Subedi, highlighted the recurring damages inflicted by elephant groups crossing over from India each year, which destroy crops and demolish homes. They urged the Chief Minister to establish permanent and effective measures to stop these incidents. Additionally, the memorandum called for a comprehensive plan to protect the residents living north of the highway from Bahundangi against future wild animal attacks.
At the event, Koshi Provincial Assembly member Gopal Tamang expressed the view that the government must take initiatives to resolve the ongoing conflict between humans and wildlife related to elephant issues.
