Can Colombia Stop Ronaldo’s Portugal in Group K Clash?

The decisive matches of Group ‘K’ in the FIFA World Cup 2026 will kick off simultaneously at 5:15 AM on Sunday, featuring Portugal vs. Colombia and DR Congo vs. Uzbekistan. Portugal and Colombia will compete at the Miami Stadium for the top spot in the group, while DR Congo face Uzbekistan at the Atlanta Stadium. Both Portugal and Colombia have already secured qualification to the knockout stage, whereas DR Congo and Uzbekistan are still hunting for their first wins.

As of June 27, Kathmandu time, Group ‘K’ is set for its crucial final round of matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. At 5:15 AM, Portugal take on Colombia, and DR Congo meet Uzbekistan, both matches happening simultaneously. The Portugal-Colombia clash unfolds at Miami Stadium, while DR Congo and Uzbekistan go head-to-head at Atlanta Stadium. Colombia, with 6 points from two games, currently tops the group, followed by Portugal with 4 points. Both teams have sealed their places in the round of 32 knockout stage. DR Congo (1 point) and Uzbekistan (0 points) remain mathematically capable of advancing but face steep challenges.

In the strategy to halt Portugal, Colombia aims to claim the top spot in Group ‘K’. The heavyweight battle between Colombia and Portugal at Miami Stadium holds significant weight, as both sides seek the group winner status to secure an advantageous path in the knockout rounds. Colombia is in excellent form, having defeated Uzbekistan in their opener and edged DR Congo 1–0 in their second match, guaranteeing their top-two finish. The team will benefit from strong South American fan support to apply an aggressive game style focused on pressuring Portugal’s defenders.

On the other hand, Portugal, led by star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, experienced a mixed start to the tournament. A surprising 1–1 draw against DR Congo in their opening game was offset by a commanding 5–0 victory over Uzbekistan in the second match, marking a strong comeback. Today, Portugal will aim to stop Colombia and secure the group-winning position to strengthen their title ambitions.

Meanwhile, DR Congo and Uzbekistan are both seeking their first victories in their encounter at Atlanta. This marks DR Congo’s second World Cup appearance since debuting in 1974, while Uzbekistan is competing on the World Cup stage for the first time. DR Congo shocked many by drawing 1–1 with a strong Portugal squad in their opening game. However, a 1–0 defeat by Colombia means DR Congo must win today to keep hopes alive. Should DR Congo defeat Uzbekistan, they would rise to third place with four points, potentially advancing as one of the ‘best third-placed’ teams or, if Portugal are defeated, possibly finishing second on goal difference and qualifying directly for the knockout stage.

Uzbekistan’s debut has been challenging, suffering a heavy 3–1 loss to Colombia and a 5–0 defeat by Portugal in their first two games. The team will strive for a historic victory to conclude their campaign positively or, at minimum, will aim to enhance slim mathematical chances, which may still depend on other group results.

The group winner from Group ‘K’ in the knockout stage will face one of the third-placed teams from Groups ‘D’, ‘E’, ‘I’, ‘J’, or ‘L’. The runner-up will compete against the runner-up from Group ‘L’, and if the team finishes third, they will face the winner of Group ‘L’.
