US Airstrike Targets Iranian Missile and Drone Sites; Iran Launches Retaliatory Attack on US Military Bases
The United States carried out an approximately one-hour airstrike targeting Iran’s missile and drone hubs as well as radar sites. President Donald Trump warned that Iran’s violation of the ongoing ceasefire threatens its very existence. In response, Iran claimed to have launched ballistic missile and drone attacks on US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. Kathmandu, 14 Ashad — On Friday, the US military conducted airstrikes against Iranian missile and drone hubs along with coastal radar installations. President Trump stated that the response was provoked due to Iran’s breach of the ceasefire agreement.
According to the US Central Command, on June 25, Iran had launched a drone attack on the Singaporean cargo ship ‘MV Ever Lovely’ in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy retaliated by targeting US military bases in the region. Ibrahim Azizi, a member of the Iranian parliament, wrote on the social media platform X, “The US attacked Iran again under the pretext of ongoing talks. The violation of the ceasefire will be regretted by the US and will force them to withdraw.”
Iran accused NATO member states supporting US and Israeli attacks of being responsible for its retaliatory actions. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded clarity from those countries regarding their support for the military operations. According to the BBC, the IRGC announced on Sunday morning that it had targeted eight bases linked to Kuwait’s Ali Al-Salem Air Base and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. The IRGC stated these attacks were part of a coordinated campaign, employing ballistic missiles and drones.
The statement claimed these vigilant actions were direct responses to recent US assaults. President Trump warned, “If violations of the ceasefire continue, Iran’s existence will be erased.” US Vice President Mike Pence emphasized the need to resolve disputes through dialogue and stated that any ongoing violence would be met with appropriate responses. On X, he wrote, “If there are disagreements on implementing the understanding, Iran needs to communicate by phone.”
