Thrilling 3-3 Draw Between Algeria and Austria Secures Both Teams’ Advancement to Knockout Stage

With this result, both teams from Group J have successfully advanced to the knockout rounds. Kathmandu, June 28 – In a thrilling FIFA World Cup 2026 match, Algeria and Austria played out a dramatic 3–3 draw. Both sides exchanged goals in injury time (1–1), making the contest extremely exciting.

Austria took the lead in the 28th minute when Marko Arnautović scored, putting his team ahead. Algeria equalized in the 45th minute through Rafik Belghali. Shortly after halftime, in the 55th minute, Austria regained the advantage thanks to a goal from Marcel Sabitzer, but five minutes later Riyad Mahrez scored for Algeria to level the match once again.

No goals were added during the regulation 90 minutes. In the third minute of injury time, Mahrez netted another goal, bringing Algeria close to victory; however, in the sixth minute of added time, Austria’s Sasa Kalajdzic scored to ensure the match ended in a 3–3 draw.

Following this outcome, Austria progressed to the knockout stage in second place with one win, one draw, and one loss, totaling 4 points. Algeria, also with 4 points but behind on goal difference, finished third. Despite their third-place position, Algeria has secured a knockout stage spot based on their outstanding overall performance.

Also emerging from the group, defending champions Argentina won all their matches to top Group J. On the other hand, Jordan was eliminated from the tournament.
