Phonij Concludes Fourth General Meeting with Release of 15-Point Simra Declaration

The Nepal Indigenous Nationalities Journalists’ Federation (Phonij) has concluded its fourth general meeting by issuing a 15-point Simra Declaration. The federation emphatically demanded the government to distribute official advertisements proportionately across all media outlets. The meeting urged the government not to cut grants to media organizations and to end delays in the payment of public welfare advertisements. Kathmandu, 15 Ashar.

The 15-point Simra Declaration was released as Phonij wrapped up its fourth general meeting held from 12-14 Ashar in Simra, Bara district of Madhesh Province. The meeting concluded with the presentation of the Simra Declaration. Phonij called on the new government to distribute official advertisements proportionately, rather than limiting them to select media, to maintain existing grants to media institutions, and to eliminate delays and ambiguities in the payment process for public welfare advertisements. The assembly also resolved to strengthen the role of the media in making the federal republic more empowered and fiscally responsible.
