Ghana’s Strategy to Halt Colombia in FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 Clash

The match held at the Kansas City Stadium in the United States is scheduled to kick off at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday. On July 3, Kathmandu time, Colombia and Ghana will face off in the final match of the Round of 32 in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Colombia, having delivered an outstanding performance in the group stage with 7 points to emerge as Group E winners, will enter the field with high morale. Conversely, Ghana, which secured a knockout stage spot by finishing third in Group L, plans to employ a defensive strategy aiming for an unexpected outcome.

Under coach Néstor Lorenzo’s guidance, Colombia has exhibited mature gameplay throughout the tournament. In the group stage, Colombia defeated Uzbekistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and drew 0-0 with Portugal. The creativity of captain James Rodríguez combined with attacks launched from Luis Díaz on the wings could pose significant challenges for Ghana. Defensively, the partnership of Davinson Sánchez and Jeison Lucumí has appeared solid.

Coached by Carlos Queiroz, Ghana intends to slow down the pace of the game and exploit opportunities through counter-attacks. Ghana has already proven their defensive capability by holding a strong England side to a goalless draw in the group stage. However, the injury status of Manchester City winger Antonee Semenyo is a concern. If Semenyo is not fully fit, Jordan Ayew will bear additional attacking responsibilities.

The midfield battle between Thomas Partey and Richard Ríos will be crucial in determining the tempo of the match. This will be the first encounter between Colombia and Ghana on the World Cup stage. Ahead of the game, Colombia’s coach Néstor Lorenzo expressed optimism about progressing further. He stated, “Ghana is an organized team. When they apply pressure and attack, they become very aggressive.” Meanwhile, Ghana’s coach Carlos Queiroz emphasized the importance of caution and vigilance, saying, “Colombia is a very good team. Yet, no team is perfect. They have some weaknesses and strengths. Therefore, we must remain alert, cautious, and focused for the entire match.” The winner of this match will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face Switzerland on July 7 at BC Place in Vancouver.
