Novak Djokovic Equals Roger Federer’s Wimbledon Record, Advances to Round of 16
June 19, Kathmandu – Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has matched Roger Federer’s record for the most wins in Wimbledon men’s singles, securing his place in the tournament’s round of 16. The seven-time Wimbledon champion defeated France’s Arthur Rinderknech in a fiercely contested match to advance to the fourth round. Djokovic triumphed with a score of 7-5, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(7-4).
With this victory, Djokovic registered his 105th singles win at Wimbledon, equaling Federer’s record. If he wins his next match, he will become the male player with the most singles victories in Wimbledon history, with 106 wins.
After the match, Djokovic reflected that a combination of skill and some luck was necessary to secure the win. “In the end, both some luck and skill were needed. In the tiebreak, I played almost flawlessly. In every area I controlled, I performed as well as possible,” he said. He highlighted the strength of his serve, acknowledging some challenges during the tiebreak but credited his opponent’s performance. “He’s very tall, has an excellent serve, and deserves praise for today’s performance,” Djokovic added.
Facing Rinderknech for the first time, Djokovic described him as a comfortable competitor on a major stage. Djokovic is set to play against Russia’s Roman Safiullin for a spot in the quarterfinals.
In another match held today, defending champion Jannik Sinner defeated American player Jenson Brooksby in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, advancing to the round of 16.
