Haaland’s Second Goal Doubles Norway’s Lead Against Brazil

In the match held at MetLife Stadium in New York, USA, Erling Haaland scored in the 90th minute to give Norway a 2-0 lead. Kathmandu, July 7 – During the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, Haaland’s goals have doubled Norway’s advantage over Brazil. Haaland scored two goals within ten minutes in the second half, netting his first at the 79th minute.

Brazil missed a key opportunity to take the lead in the first half after Bruno Guimarães failed to convert a penalty. Early in the game, at the 14th minute, Guimarães’ penalty attempt was saved by Norway’s goalkeeper, Ørjan Nyland. The penalty was awarded to Brazil after referee consulted VAR, following a foul on Norway’s Kristoffer Ajer inside the penalty box. Despite the chance, Guimarães’s penalty was saved by Nyland, marking him as the first Brazilian player in over 40 years to miss a World Cup penalty. Previously, Zico missed a penalty against France in the 1986 World Cup.

Norway remains unbeaten in all four encounters against Brazil and secured a 2-1 victory over them in their sole World Cup meeting in 1998.
