Alexander Zverev Reaches Wimbledon Final for the First Time

Germany’s Alexander Zverev triumphed over Arthur Fery in straight sets to secure his first-ever spot in the Wimbledon men’s singles final. The French Open champion will face the winner between Yannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic on Sunday for the title. On Friday, Zverev, the second seed, defeated British wildcard Fery 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinal. He will now compete for the championship against the defending champion Yannik Sinner or seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic. The 23-year-old Fery, ranked world No. 114 at the start of the tournament, had never previously progressed beyond the second round in a Grand Slam. However, he defied all expectations with his unforgettable journey to the semifinals this time.

Following the match, the crowd at Centre Court honored Fery’s outstanding performance with prolonged applause. After the tournament, Fery will rise to a career-best world ranking of No. 36 when the new rankings are released on Monday. He will also become the UK’s new No. 1 player. Additionally, he is set to receive prize money amounting to £900,000 (approximately 1.659 billion Nepalese rupees). Reflecting on his victory, Zverev said, “Wimbledon has always been a challenging Grand Slam for me. I am extremely happy to reach the final for the first time.” He also praised Fery, stating, “Arthur is an exceptional player. This is just the beginning of his career. He will perform even better in tennis in the coming years.” The 29-year-old Zverev won his first Grand Slam title last month at the French Open.
