Houthi Rebels Claim Attack on Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia

June 30, Kathmandu – The Yemeni rebel group Houthi has claimed responsibility for targeting Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia. According to the Houthi organization, ballistic missiles and drones were used in the attack on the airport on Monday. The Houthi rebels stated that the attack was a retaliatory response to air strikes carried out from Saudi Arabia on the international airport located in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a.

According to the news agency Reuters, Yahya Saree, a spokesperson for the Houthi rebels, issued a statement warning all airlines to stay away from Saudi Arabian airspace. He emphasized that airlines should take the warning seriously. The Houthis announced that strict measures will continue until the ban imposed on the international airport in Sana’a’s capital is lifted, and that the airport will only resume operations after approvals are granted. Earlier, the Yemen government, supported by Saudi Arabia, claimed through the Ministry of Defense that it conducted a targeted strike on the runway of Sana’a International Airport to prevent the landing of Iranian aircraft.
