Belgium Coach Rudy Garcia to Step Down from Position

Rudy Garcia, the head coach of the Belgium national football team, is set to step down from his position. The Royal Belgian Football Association has decided not to renew the contract of the 62-year-old coach, which expires on July 31. Under his leadership, Belgium advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2026. In the quarterfinals, Belgium was defeated 2–1 by the reigning champions Spain. Throughout the tournament, Belgium was also the only team to score against Spain, with Charles De Ketelaere netting a goal against them.

In a statement released by the Belgian Football Association, it was announced that the decision not to continue with Garcia was made despite the achievements over the past 18 months. Garcia stated, “I am proud to have had the opportunity to keep Belgium in the Nations League A division and help establish the team among the world’s top eight. I am grateful to the players, sporting director Vincent Mannaert, and all the supporters who stood by us during the World Cup. I am also pleased to have contributed to the process of building the new generation.”

During his tenure as Belgium’s coach, Garcia managed 20 matches, achieving 12 wins, 6 draws, and 2 losses. Previously, he has held coaching roles at prominent European clubs including Lille, Marseille, Lyon, and AS Roma.
