UAE Announces Squad for ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 Series Without Regular Captain Wasim; Harpreet Singh Bhatia to Lead
The UAE has named a 15-member squad under the captaincy of Harpreet Singh Bhatia for the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. Regular captain Muhammad Wasim has been excluded from the team. Former Indian cricketer Akhadeep Nath has also retained his place in the squad. The UAE is scheduled to compete against Scotland and Canada in a tri-nation series starting August 3 in Scotland. The UAE has finalized a 15-player squad for the upcoming tri-nation one-day series, which will be held in Scotland as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. Bhatia will captain the squad in Wasim’s absence; Muhammad Wasim, known more as a T20I specialist batsman than an ODI player, has not been included. Previously, the UAE hosted a series in Nepal where they won two matches and lost two. Bhatia made his debut for the UAE during that series. He is a seasoned professional who has experience playing in India’s Ranji Trophy and the IPL.
Former Indian cricketer Akhadeep Nath has also retained his place in the UAE team; he too debuted during the Nepal series. In the League 2 points table, the UAE is at the bottom with 14 points from 24 matches. The UAE squad will depart for Jersey on Saturday, where they will play two one-day practice matches against Jersey on July 27 and 29 before proceeding to Scotland. Upon arrival in Scotland, UAE will face Scotland ‘A’ in a practice game on July 31. The team’s first official League 2 match will be against hosts Scotland on August 3, followed by a contest against Canada on August 5. In the second phase, UAE will once again face Scotland on August 9 and Canada on August 11 to conclude the series. All matches will be held at the Forfarshire Cricket Club ground in Dundee, Scotland.
