Talks in Cairo Conclude on Implementing Gaza Peace Plan

Mediated by the United States, talks were held in Cairo between mediators and Hamas leaders regarding the implementation of the Gaza peace plan. Following Hamas’s commitment to disarm, an agreement was signed by the negotiators, according to Reuters and The Times of Israel. However, Israeli officials have commented that the proposed disarmament falls short of their expectations and that the terms of the agreement are unsatisfactory.

This marks some progress after a prolonged period of stagnation. Nevertheless, according to Israeli officials, the proposed conditions remain unsatisfactory.

The declaration of Hamas’s pledge to disarm was initially made by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Subsequently, negotiators, board members of Hamas, and representatives from mediating countries signed an agreement, The Times of Israel reported, citing an unnamed source.

However, the disarmament proposal reportedly does not meet Israel’s demands and is deemed unsatisfactory by Israeli officials. Previous Israeli media reports have also covered Israel’s dissent regarding this agreement within ongoing discussions with Hamas.
