Special Mechanism Established for Effective Monitoring of National Pride Irrigation Projects

The Department of Water Resources and Irrigation has established a modern and effective special mechanism to monitor the physical and financial progress of national pride projects. This mechanism will identify difficulties and problems in timely project completion and set clear deadlines to resolve these issues. Energy Minister Birajbhakta Shrestha has convened a meeting of all project chiefs to review project progress and outline upcoming work plans.

27th Shrawan, Kathmandu. To effectively supervise national pride projects and other ongoing projects under the department, the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation has instituted a new special mechanism. This measure comes after projects that have been underway for a long time failed to achieve expected progress, exceeded set deadlines, and faced unresolved construction-related problems resulting in deteriorating conditions.

The mechanism will regularly monitor and coordinate aspects such as physical condition, financial expenditure, construction schedules, major challenges, and solutions through progress reviews conducted directly at project sites. The department has also developed a new system to identify issues, assign responsible agencies, set definite timelines for resolution, and follow up accordingly.

In the initial phase, priority has been given to projects like the Mahakali (Third) Irrigation Project, Rani Jamra Kulariya Irrigation Project, Babai Irrigation Project, Bheri-Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project, Sikta Irrigation Project, and Sun Koshi-Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project. Preparations are underway not only to collect progress data on these projects but also to identify problems, assign responsibilities for prompt and effective actions, and implement a results-oriented continuous follow-up system.
