International Men’s Volleyball Tournament to Be Held in Butwal

The Madan Bhandari Sports Academy has announced it will host an international men’s volleyball tournament in Butwal from October 4 to 9, 2026 (Asoj 12 to 17, 2083 BS). The event will take place at the Butwal Mandap, with teams from Nepal, India, China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh participating, according to the academy’s chairman, Dhruv Acharya.

The tournament, named the Madan Bhandari Cup International Invitational Running Shield Men’s Volleyball Tournament–2083, was approved at the academy’s 11th general meeting held in Butwal on August 10–11, 2026 (Sawan 25–26, 2083 BS). Preparation for the competition has already been set in motion following the confirmation of teams from the six countries, including three teams from Nepal.

“This is the first time a high-level volleyball competition of this scale will be organized in Nepal,” Dhruv Acharya stated. The club had previously conducted the Indo-Nepal Volleyball Tournament and aims to elevate this second edition to a more refined international level.

The winning team will receive NPR 700,000, along with a trophy, medals, and certificates. The runners-up will be awarded NPR 350,000, and the third-place team will get NPR 175,000 plus trophies, medals, and certificates.

Additionally, a consolation prize of NPR 75,000 will be given to a participating team. Individual awards include NPR 100,000 for Player of the Match, NPR 15,000 for the Best Player, and NPR 8,000 with trophies and medals for the best spiker, setter, server, coach, blocker, and defensive players.

The organizers expect about 128 players and 150 officials to participate. The total estimated budget for the tournament is NPR 11.8 million.

During the meeting, decisions were also made to make the academy’s provincial structures more effective and active, alongside changes at the central committee level. Dhruv Acharya shared that senior vice president Mohan Regmi, vice president Jhakbahadur Midun, general secretary Madan Upreti, and deputy general secretary Chandra Badna Rai have been appointed.

Additionally, Ram Bahadur KC, secretary Uday Aryal, Nilam Bajracharya, Binod Acharya, Nandu Kaucha, and treasurer Kamal Dhakal have been assigned responsibilities. Members include Sirisha Karki from Rupandehi, Amarawati Rana and Rajiv Rana from Sudurpaschim, Shivraj Rana, Rishiram Gautam from Gandaki, Anant Shrestha, and Rajesh Mahto from Madhesh Province.

Provincial coordinators include Uday Kumar Aryal for Koshi Province, Rabindra Raj Bhandari for Madhesh Province, Ram Bahadur KC for Bagmati Province, Buddhi Basyal for Lumbini Province, Girman Gurung for Gandaki Province, Gopal Bahadur Shahi for Karnali Province, and Gyanuraj Dagoura for Sudurpaschim Province, the academy chairman confirmed.
