Two Children Missing After Drowning While Swimming in Karnali River
September 20, Humla. Two children went missing after drowning while swimming in the Karnali River. According to Youth Raj Dhakal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Humla, the two children disappeared Thursday while swimming in the Karnali River at Sunakhada, Kharpunath Rural Municipality – 1, Humla district.
Spokesperson Dhakal stated that the missing children are 13-year-old Prashant Rawal, son of Ramchandra Rawal from Kharpunath–1, and 11-year-old Anu Shahi, daughter of Brikh Shahi. The incident occurred while they were bathing in the river.
Upon receiving the report, the district police office immediately deployed a search team, according to Dhakal. Authorities suspect the strong current of the Karnali River swept the children away, and search operations are currently ongoing. Both children were studying in grade 7 at Malika Secondary School.
Ward chairperson Jay Bahadur Shahi of Kharpunath–1 reported that the children were playing near the riverbank when the swift current of the Karnali River swept them away. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shankar Khadka, chief of the District Police Office, said the strong river flow is posing difficulties for the search effort.
