Government’s Taxpayer Reward Program Drives Change in Market and Consumer Behavior

Since 1st Shrawan 2083, the government has implemented a taxpayer reward incentive program, offering prizes ranging from NPR 100,000 to NPR 1,000,000 to consumers who request bills. Business owners from stores like Bhatbhateni, Salesberry, and Pokhrel Stores have reported an increase in customers asking for bills and registering their PAN numbers following the program’s initiation. Consumers Anisa Shrestha and Luma Basnet, while appreciating the plan, have suggested that more promotion is needed as many people remain unaware of it.

Consumers shopping in daily markets now see requesting bills not only as a chance to become millionaires but also as part of a movement to promote market transparency. Under this initiative, consumers who ask for bills can win prizes ranging from NPR 100,000 to NPR 1,000,000. Conscious consumers like Rameshwar Acharya from Gothatar, Bhaktapur, have started to insist on receiving bills.

According to Ajay Lama, the manager of Bhatbhateni Supermarket, the program has boosted customer enthusiasm. Customers are increasingly registering their personal details, including their PAN numbers. Monica Paudel, supervisor at Salesberry Departmental Store, also noted a rise in consumer awareness about bill receipts.

However, many consumers remain unaware of the reward scheme. Anisa Shrestha stated, “Requesting bills is both a right and responsibility of consumers,” emphasizing that everyone should understand and benefit from this program. The government’s initiative has proven to be a positive and effective step toward market transparency and reducing tax evasion.
