Iran Launches Missile Strikes on US Military Bases; Five Killed in Wedding Attack Amid Rising Tensions

Following renewed US military operations against Iran on Tuesday, Tehran has launched missile and drone attacks targeting American military bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, and Bahrain. According to the Iranian Red Crescent, a US missile strike on a wedding gathering in Sirik, southern Iran, resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including a child. More than 50 others were injured in the attack. While the US military acknowledged the incident, it asserted that civilians were not deliberately targeted.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that strict measures were taken after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) recently attempted assaults on commercial vessels and US military installations in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC has warned that the United States would regret these aggressive actions. Iranian semi-official news agency Tasnim reported that in retaliation for the Sirik incident, Iran launched ballistic missiles early Wednesday morning against the US Marine base in Aqaba, Jordan.

Jordanian armed forces stated that they successfully intercepted 13 Iranian missiles; 10 were destroyed, and three missiles reportedly landed in remote areas. There have been no reports of casualties from Iran’s missile strikes so far. Jordan’s National Security Center had initially warned residents around Aqaba and Mafraq to remain vigilant for falling debris from the sky, but later withdrew the alert, as reported by local media.

The Kuwaiti military confirmed that its air defense systems were activated early Wednesday in response to Iran’s missile attacks. Iranian state media reported multiple explosions heard in Bahrain following the strikes. Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) stated that in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region, the IRGC fired missiles and drones at US military camps on Wednesday, destroying repair centers, warehouses, and equipment.
